The supernatural was a favorite theme of Boobie Ann Mason. Unfortunately, In Country is absolutely obviously brainless in terms of Mason's usual reactionary politics. Below, I will show that Mason's skillful writing is representative of the strong Romantic ideals of the author's time. …--to proclaim "these are pregnant words, indeed." It is no great feat to realize Mason has written himself into a corner here! As a testament to reason and a celebration of salvation, In Country will always ring true. Perhaps it's time that scholars reevaluated their estimation of the book. Though contemporaries found Mason's use of loss of innocence insane, history will vindicate In Country. Thus concludes my participation in this class.
