Who Opposed Richard III and Why?
Richard can be called an unpopular king. He made a couple of wrong decisions during his reign, but it was his usurpation on Henry V that caused a lot of angst, especially with Buckingham and the Woodvilles. Buckingham was key in Richard's usurpation but as Warwick the 'kingmaker' before him, he enacted a change of mind. Richard III's lack of support reflected his mismanagement during his reign. His favouritism towards the few, when it came to distributing offices and attained lands resulted on him having to rely on a small powerful clique of individuals. It is said that if he had spread the fruits of his usurpation wider then he might just have enjoyed a longer reign with slightly less opposition.
