Using historical examples one can see the relationship from the novel to actual events during the 1930's. Using brainwashed youth, an ignorant society, and a strong ability to influence others among others the Nazi party was able to make them a world power. They were able to come out as one of the top governments of the twentieth century right before their humiliating downfall.
