Everything he found innocent eventually became corrupted and he failed from stopping the corruption. Salinger message is that the corruption in society cannot be stopped. It is human nature to have greed, lust and other things. Innocence can be withheld for a period of time, but the crossover to adulthood, which represents evil and corruption, is inevitable.
