This was probably because readers from the time that this was writing would not enjoy reading books about boring adventures where nothing happens. While Troyes may have intended this to be a romance when he wrote it, over time cultures and outlooks change. The story of Lancelot, the greatest knight, will live on in the hearts and minds of its readers, no matter what time or culture they live in
