…a listing of events, however irrelevant, that shape the characters into what they become. Like life, people die, events happen and we forget, but sometimes we remember some events. Events that have nothing to do with the person we are, but we remember them just the same. Winton does this too, events that are memorable yet have no effect on us. This does not make them explained, but puts some relevance to the question, why.
