I moved to Hong Kong when I entered fourth grade. I was ten, and too young to appreciate its customs and culture. However, I did learn to imitate a British accent and speak enough Cantonese to get around. Surprisingly, my love for basketball was the most valuable part of my overseas experience. …I can usually be found running laps around the school gym. Basketball helped me learn to budget my time, stop procrastinating and balance school and extra curricular activities. Hong Kong gave me an early start to develop skills needed to deal with challenging situations. Thrown into a new environment, I learned to communicate and form friendships in a culturally diverse atmosphere. Hong Kong and basketball taught me commitment, determination and sacrifice is key to success.
