Colonist unity on eve of revolution

This unity and identity by no means came instantaneously, but came as a slow trickle and even on the eve of the revolution was still not complete. But even with all this progress, the colonist are still divided as some colonies only watch out for there own ends and the colonists are split into Tories and Patriots. With all this progress and conflict, the colonists still manage to develop a sense of their identity and unity as Americans by the eve of the Revolution.
