Hamlet
From his four large soliloquys, Hamlet's character is presented as that of someone who has a never ending internal battle between his head and his heart, someone who would much rather follow his heart, but finds it extremely difficult to forget his head. He is a pessimist, and gets no enjoyment from life, seeing life as fruitless and so continually contemplates suicide. He is highly intelligent, and it seems almost as if the planned revenge
that this is not really what he really wants. Hamlet has made revenge his whole purpose for living, and although inside he doesn't really want to murder his uncle, without his focus in life, he is "A beast, no more" (IV.iv., 35). For this reason, he still clings on to it desperately, until Claudius' death. With this, it is only natural for Hamlet to also die because his whole purpose for living has been forfilled.
