Leading to Civil War

Throughout history compromising has been used. It may settle a disagreement at the time, but in the long run hurts everyone. It can also lead to war instead of preventing it. It is in the case of the civil war that this build up of tension and conflict is apparently visible. With the groups fearful of the others power compromise can only enhance the sense that the other had increased there power and they had not. With the fear there and the south ready to secede the compromising could have been the worst mechanism of anti-war they could use. Because this left everyone still fearful with no true side said to be stronger.
