It is so significant that at the end of the play, the Prince blames the lords because of their enmity. Romeo and Juliet's love versus Capulet's and Montague's enmity creates contrast. Prejudice that weakens love and pressure created by enmity easily ruins love. The loss of self-control and making wise decisions also play a major role in love's destruction. Thus, in some instances enmity overcomes love.
