Gary Smith helped Kuklinski steal cars and resell them. There was a warrant out for Smith's arrest because of stealing and cashing checks. Kuklinski was afraid that if Smith was caught by police, he would talk. So, Kuklinski decided that it was time for Smith to "go to Florida", which means it was time for him to die. When Prolifrone got on the stand he played the tapes for the jury and discussed how Kuklinski would talk about how long it would take his victims to die. On may 25 1988 they found Kuklinski guilty. He did not get the death penalty b/c of the absence of eyewitness testimony. Kuklinski got 2 life sentences. He was taken to trentan state prison in New Jersey, the same prison where his brother is serving life.
