The people of Hadleyburg believed that it was the perfect town, free of corruption and problems; Not only were they proven wrong, but, in the process, the man who corrupted Hadleyburg …

…the right thing and face the consequences. Mark Twain clearly showed his belief in his statement in "The Man Who Corrupted Hadleyburg." I think greed and dishonesty are more common than they are believed to be, and Twain apparently felt the same way. He showed corruption in the place that was supposed to be incorruptible, greed in the more well-off families, and dishonesty in the clergy, the places one would least expect to find them.
