One Child is a book about a violent, out of control six year old girl named Sheila who has been raised in a world of abuse, hostility, and anger, and how one brilliant teacher named Torey reached out to her. Sheila was abandoned by her mother when she was four, and she lives with her father who is an alcoholic who constantly abuses and torments her. There are many issues I’ve learned in the text book, that I read about in One Child and showed first 85 words of 1266 total

showed last 85 words of 1266 total and that their development would not be completely ruined. I always thought that people who came from those situations would always have some psychological problems and after reading this book, I know that is not true. My classmates should definitely read it. It is a powerful story and it might teach them what I learned, and it can show how strong both Sheila and Torey were. I was definitely touched by this story, and I’m glad I chose this book for my selected reading.
