The Reconstruction period after the war failed in many ways to change the South’s social structure, as still almost all African American’s were very poor and though they were considered “free” were really not. There were many different classes or groups that everyone belonged to after the war. I state the different sides of reconstruction after the war.

The Northern republican leaders were interested in the same things as the Northern Industrialist and went along with them accordingly. They were also interested in the national bank, aid to the railroad, the Homestead Act, and a containment of slavery. However, some of the issues especially when it came to the poor were all thrown to the side because of how both the industrialists and the republican’s views were alike.
