The top trumpet virtuoso of the early jazz era was without a doubt Louis Armstrong. Armstrong, given the name “Satchmo” for his wide grin and burly voice, changed the face of jazz and popular music as we know it today. Louis Armstrong’s last recording was “The Night Before Christmas” in 1971. He passed away in his Corona home on the 6th of July, 1971. Many others have put it much more eloquently than I am able to but I feel we all, especially those lovers of the music called Jazz, owe much to this man, not only as a pioneer of Jazz trumpet and vocals, but also as a very genuine human being. He truly remains the 'King of Jazz'.
