The traditional classroom is a one person show. Sitting still in one place, listening to a teacher lecture is very rarely interesting. Students are expected to accept what the professor says to be true. This is memorization and not learning. The traditional approach to teaching leaves little room for independent thought or student initiated questions. It cannot be assumed that each person has come into the course with equivalent background knowledge. Nor can it be
about a particular subject. An instructor should teach or train the students on how to teach themselves, on how to learn. Learning is thoroughly linked with socialization. The connection between teachers, classmates and other people in the school or classroom help to stimulate learning and even make it more interesting. Educators should take this into consideration instead of shunning it; then maybe more students would look forward to entering the classroom, instead of dreading it.
