Mr. Macintosh did not want to acknowledge Dirk as his son and in The Displace Person; Mrs. McIntyre does not want to keep Mr. Guizac as a worker at her farm. Both of these decisions were made partly because they were feeling threatened by people who they perceived as threatening their idea of social order.
