In the opening of this story, you can tell that the character of Montressor is seeking revenge against a man he considered to be his friend. Montressor describes how he has "suffered a thousand injuries" by his friend Fortunato. By injuries, i believe he meant verbally and not physically. Then one evening Montressor goes out to the carnival and meest up with Fortunato whao has had to much to drink.Montressor tries to lure Fortunato Home. In this story Fortunato has basically know idea what is going on. Henever suspects that a man he calls friend would turn and try killing him.
