The Legacy of the 54th Regiment.

During the Civil War traditional thoughts were perceived that black soldiers wouldn't fight. The legacy of the Fifty-fourth regiment was referred as a noble experiment. For the men of the Massachusetts Fifty-fourth regiment infantry, it was a chance to contradict their white disbelievers. …rushed to join the Civil War's first African-American infantry, the Fifty-fourth Regiment, to prove to the world steeped in slavery that they are equal to whites in courage, commitment and dedication to the Union. These men of the Fifty-fourth staked their lives to prove that the traditional thought of the southerners were wrong. Had having courage and intelligent combat ready the Fifty-fourth became the war's most famous black regiment because of its heroism in battle.
