Some of these factors were social or economic, while others stemmed from the environment and location of the colonies. Other factors that influenced and affected the changes between the colonies were the influx of foreign goods and influences through the ports of the New World. Whatever the causes, by the year 1700 the two regions had evolved into two very different and distinct societies.
