The United States had been the greatest supporter of the 1973 Military Coup and this knowledge has become widely known due to the declassified documents that surfaced recently, effectively placing considerable blame of Chile's social problems on the United States. Even so, the American government decided to ignore it and coincidentally, so did the media.
