The use of action sub-genre, of thriller is a fairly recent addition, older thrillers; such as "Dial M for Murder" rely mainly on dialogue to convey the twists and narrative, rather than dramatic events. This reflects the changing audience demands, we like to see the new computer effects technology exploited to its fullest. We have also become de-sensitized to violence and action, so films have to constantly up the level contained within them to keep the audience entertained.
