Classicist and Romantics in Arcadia The play, Arcadia, written by Tom Stoppard, shows different characters that expresses varied opinions on certain subjects. The characters in the play are either classified as Romantics or Classicists. Although some characters are both Classicist and Romantic, such as Thomasina, Septimus and Hannah. …natural goodness of man, emotions and that value is placed on individualism. However, Septimus and Hannah, are not only Romantics but Classicists as well. Septimus and Hannah both need facts in order to believe that something is true, therefore they believe in science. But they also believe in art, and that things always move towards chaos. Science and art will always be apart of this world, and forever we shall always have Romantics and Classicists.
