Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita, is narrated by Humbert Humbert, the main character and villain of the book. At first it seems that because of his actions it is obvious that the reader will hate him and sympathize with the other main character Lolita. His clever narration though, leads the reader to sympathize with or even accept his feelings, actions and the way that he presents the events of the book. Humbert filters everything and tells the story in a way makes it seem completely different that showed first 85 words of 1170 total

All of his arguments and his exclusion of Lolita from the book do a very good job of warping the views of the reader and eventually convincing them that Humbert Humbert is a tragic victim. The reader gets so caught up in him and his character and his excuses that we forget what the book is really about. Our understanding of the events is in essence Humbert Humbert's understanding of the events.
