the bear and the flight
Flight, by John Steinbeck and The Bear by William Faulkner were both stories which dealt with the journey from boyhood to manhood. They were alike in many ways, a particularly interesting way was that in both stories, the journey to becoming a man was assisted by others, but ultimately it fell on the lone boy becoming a man on his own. The two boys in the story became men, but in two very different ways.
losing the concept of manliness and accepting the responsibility and not the glory of manhood is the trait which defines manhood. There are different roads to the realization of this fact, as the differences in the two stories and the two main characters show. In the end though, Pepe and the boy from The Bear both discovered that their different paths lead to the same realization that manhood is responsibility and not glory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Bibliography**
