AFTERMATH OF THE VIENNA CONGRESS AND THE BEGINNING OF THE LIBERAL MOVEMENT IN ITALY
AFTERMATH OF THE VIENNA CONGRESS AND THE BEGINNING OF THE LIBERAL MOVEMENT IN ITALY The Congress of Vienna was an international conference that was called after the downfall of Napolean, to redivide Europe and establish a lasting peace in the land. The main goal seemed to be ‘turning back the clock’ by putting those families which had been removed from power either by revolution or the efforts of Napolean back into power. In September 1814, the
manner Italy’s progress continued to be shuffled back and forth, waiting for the day to arrive when they would be a unified nation. The second French revolution took place in 1848 and “if 1848-9 had ended with a crushing defeat for the radical left in Italy, the heroism of the Roman and Venetian republics won the democrats admiration and respect in many quarters, and provided the cause of Italian independence with some excellent publicity.” (Duncan, 1994:117)
