Through reading this article by Admiral Stockdale, I have certainly become inspired. His perspective on life and education is most honorable. Through deprivation he has prospered, he let his intellect take over and was able to let go of a materialistic status. Which is what most Americans strive on. Stories like Admiral Stockdale’s need to be taught in public schools. To teach the children about sacrifice and integrity is to instill passion and strength within society. Socrates wrote, “There is only one good, knowledge,” we must not cheat our intellect that will be our biggest failure.
