“Ancient Mexico, an overview,” by Jaime Litvak King is a book about the history about Mexico. She begins the book with the very beginnings of Mexican civilization and through all the hardships the Indians had to endure with the invasion of Spanish conquistadors and Hernan Cortes. In my opinion the importance of the history is tremendous. As a native Mexican, I personally was fascinated with the history of my people and my heritage. Being part
other readings I have done on the history of Mexico, King’s interpretation is very accurate. Her dates and her facts are all on target. The only difference is that most other books focus more on the Olmec cities because they were the founders of the Mexican cultures. For example, Neil Baldwin writes, “The essential unity and crucial interdependence pervading the Mesoamerican community was set in motion by the Olmec, bears of the ‘Mother Culture.’”
