Aria was a somewhat odd essay. At first I couldn’t determine if the purpose of his essay was to tell of his childhood difficulties or to tell of the changes made in public schools for bilingual children. I am still unsure of the sole purpose, but I have come to the conclusion that it is of both. Rodriguez starts off talking off his first days in a public school and how he knew little …

…there will be two languages of America- Spanish and English. Rodriguez illuminated the idea of how bilingual kids can lose their cultural heritage and language by going to school in American society, but he was glad that he learned English. I believe his purpose in the end is that schools need to teach bilingual kids in their language so that they don’t lose it, but at the same time teach the valuable English language.
