Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau Art Nouveau is a French term meaning “new art” that was used to describe the decorative art style that occurred during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. With its beginnings found in the Arts and Crafts movement of William Morris, Art Nouveau eventually spread all over Europe and into the United States. In the varying countries this art movement was given different names. In Germany it was known as Jugendstil after the
Sullivan. Sullivan constructed very traditional buildings but would decorate them with ironwork that took on the shapes of vines and plants. Just prior to World War One the Art Nouveau scene began to fade away. It led to Art Deco movement which was predominent during the twenties and thirties.
