The book is based on characters who struggle extremely hard to keep from remembering their painful past. However, the chronology is needed to understand the psychological and emotional state of all the characters in the story. Reading the story is similar to “listening” to a story. This unusual “oral” style is expressed; it feels as if the novel is speaking the emotions of each character out loudly, allowing the reader to identify with each one.
