Grendle’s lair is associated with death and darkness in many ways. …when Grendle came home, he always had dead bodies with him. The poem also states “No wisdom reaches such depths,” meaning that it is just so dark and evil down there in his lair that no wisdom and knowledge can reach his lair. Death and darkness has clogged up his lair that no good can enter his lair or to his life. All these words cause the readers to associate Grendle with death and darkness.
