Bob Dylan Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota. He taught himself how to play the piano and guitar and liked writing poems. In 1997 Dylan was honored at the Kennedy Center for Artistic excellence and in 2001 won an academy award for best song, “Things Have Changed.” Bob Dylan has been writing songs and performing for 40 years.
