…one of the many themes that is prominent throughout the novel. However, this theme can easily be linked to both of the main protagonists, and as the novel continues, the antagonists. The motives that they possessed in their lived showed how selfish they were acting. They only cared about themselves. They wanted a better life and on their journey to this new life they effected themselves as well as the other people in their lives.
