Brighton Beach Memoirs

The two characters I will be discussing are Eugene and Stanley. The first part of this assignment will be a discussion of both characters. The second part will be a discussion on their relationships with the other characters in the play. Eugene is 14 years old and is the younger male in the family. He is a very active person, aspiring to be a baseball player for the New York Yankees. He is seen as the “…

…blamed for things that happen in the house. Eugene does not fit in with the rest of the family, and he does not attempt to fit in and be more like his brother or his cousins. Stanley is the second father figure in the family. When his father becomes ill, he takes over the major family responsibilities temporarily until he gets better. His sense of responsibility is marred somewhat by his gambling experience in Act 2.
