In the fall of 1950 members of the Topeka, Kansas, Chapter of National Association for the Advancement of colored people agreed to again challenge the “separate but equal” doctrine governing public education. The NAACP was eager to assist the Brown’s, as it had long wanted to challenge segregation in public schools. Inspired, numerous non-governmental organizations staged mass actions against segregation in other aspects of social life, including the successful bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, led by Dr. Martin Luther king, Jr. to protest against segregation in public transportation ………The ruling is still a source of pride to those who fought to make it happen.
