…the stories would have the same horrible ending. It seemed that if I didn’t finish the book, I could ignore the reality of the remaining tribes Brown wrote about. However, the thoroughness of the accounts from the Indians, soldiers and government documentation would not allow me to draw any other conclusion; as a nation we had systematically, and almost completely, wiped out hundreds of thousands of Native Americans for the sake of “Manifest Destiny.”
