Book Review Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown D. Alexander Brown was born in Alberta, Louisiana, in 1908 and raised in Arkansas. Brown is best known for his writings on the American West with his most famous work being, "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West” (1970). To date the book has been translated in to 17 languages and sold several million copies. Some of his other writings include “…

…the stories would have the same horrible ending. It seemed that if I didn’t finish the book, I could ignore the reality of the remaining tribes Brown wrote about. However, the thoroughness of the accounts from the Indians, soldiers and government documentation would not allow me to draw any other conclusion; as a nation we had systematically, and almost completely, wiped out hundreds of thousands of Native Americans for the sake of “Manifest Destiny.”
