Catcher in the Rye 8
Holden Caufield lives in a psychiatric hospital in California. While in the rest home, Caufield tells the story of a four day flash back when he was in school. Holden's roommate, Ward Stradlater arrives to get ready for his date with Jane Gallagher, a girl whom Holden knows and likes. Afterward, Holden and some friends go out for the night. After an argument with Ward, Holden decides to leave the school. He goes to New
taken away along with his brother. Without Holden having a healthy relationship with love going back and forth he becomes an emotionless heap of flesh with no direction or motivation. The author is illustrating his version of hell. Hell to the author is being surrounded by phonies and not being able to care. This tragedy is Holden’s life; a life of lies and deception, a life of cold, dark thoughts, a life in hell.
