Cathedral
There are many clues in the story “Cathedral”, by Raymond Carver, which help us to understand the character of the narrator. The reading helps me to conclude that the narrator is a man who does not have much compassion for others. While telling of how he feels about the blind man coming to his home, he does not care about the visitor’s ailment. What the narrator does know is that he is bothered by
that he does not have any friends. She says to him, “’You don’t have any friends,’” (400). This is evidence that the narrator displays qualities that make it tough for anyone to get along with him. In conclusion I would like to further support my claim that the narrator is insensitive by quoting something that the narrator says to his wife about the future visit of the blind man. “Maybe I could take him bowling” (399).
