…industry, cattle grazing, and fishing, whereas the south had only cotton. The taxes that the south paid for industry and the tariffs made the south increasingly ready to nullify or secede. The north and south had very different economic interests and both were ready to fight to protect theirs. In conclusion, there were a variety of reasons for the Civil War but at the root of each lay the economics of the north and south.
