…I was mostly attracted to the colorfulness of the painting, and the idea that there was no trace of black paint deeply impressed me. I feel that Henri Matisse fully achieved what he set out to accomplish. He wanted to make a difference in the world. Even though his later work turned away from the rough, loose, and sketchy brushstrokes, his strong technique of color usage continued to impress and encourage other artists to come.
