Confusions by Alan Ayckbourne
Confusions by Alan Ayckbourn In this essay I am going to examine the relationships portrayed in the one act play “between mouthfuls”. The beginning of the play starts with the Waiter and Mr Pearce. The waiter is polite and friendly with Pearce. Mr Pearce is the opposite and is sharp and impatient with him. When the waiter asks Mr Pearce his name again he gets annoyed. “Pearce. i've just this minute said so.” From this
causes a seen and storms out. Then when Polly blurts out with it Martin isn’t one bit interested that his wife has been cheating on him and is only worried that he may lose his job. It is easy to conclude that the issue of confusions adds to the problems experienced by the characters. Each of the couples fails in one way or another to understand and respond to the need of their partner.
