…whether or not Liberalism was born in the French Revolution and my conclusion is that it wasn’t. It was already a state of mind, and that the French Revolution acted only as a catalyst. I have also debated the point that Conservatism was born in the Revolution. It was because of the Revolution that the ‘conservatives’ had to define themselves, justify their beliefs and gather a following. They were no longer known as “them”.
