…Austria had to relinquish Venetia and a number of German teritorries to Prussia. Prussia then went on to unify all German states into the German Empire. In 1867, Austria retaliated by modifying its constitutional framework as to give Hungary equal partnership. This came to be called the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary.         Both countries, Canada and Austria, achieved Confederation in the same year: 1867. And even though their motives and implementations were different, this remains a remarkable coincidence.
