To understand the concepts of religion and Christianity proposed by Dostoevsky in C&P, it first helps to know a little about the context in which he wrote the book. Dostoevsky took the most profound arguments against Christianity and delved into the depths to prove
he resolves in crime mainly to prove that he really is somebody - somebody so important, that the laws of society shouldn't be applied to him. The power of Sonya's love is what redeems him, but in order for this to happen, he must again feel that he is something more than a pawn in the hands of an impersonal, man-eating fate. And it's Somya's love, in the most Christian sense, which makes that possible.
