Elizabeth and Abigail The play, The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, is a story about a group of girls who selfishly accuse people of witchcraft to save themselves. The accused people are put on trial. These trials are known as the Salem Witchcraft Trials. This is known as a crucible, a crucible is a severe trial. Arthur Miller uses the Salem Witchcraft Trials of 1692 to point out the dangers of the movement during the 1950’s
both of there hangings. John tried telling the truth that he had an affair with Abigail but Elizabeth, being a good wife, tries protecting his reputation and tells the judges that he did not. Abigail gets most of the people of Salem hung by telling all of her lies trying to keep herself out of trouble. The people of Salem, because of her actions, learned that people should not be judged without proof of evidence.
