In the chapter of the 1900’s called the Cold War, there is one clear and undeniable climax. October 16, 1962, and the twelve days that followed, the world came to a standstill over an event known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. This conflict was an inevitable wake up call to all involved that provided a stark realization about how volatile the cold war had become. To say that the conflict began in 1962 is foolish. Its roots date
that point onward. Civilians also begin to awaken to the full harsh, grim reality of nuclear warfare. Cries for disarmament and arms controlling begin to overshadow the arms racers. Despite this protest the battle of ego between the superpowers would press on, even grow in the years following the crisis. But at no time in the duration of the Cold War was the entire world in more peril, then those thirteen days in October of 1962.
