It took place in the midst of the Cold War between the United States and the USSR. During this time, the United States had stationed missiles in Turkey, very close to the Soviet Union, making Khrushchev and his associates extremely nervous. This was a valuable source because it gave many different views about what was happening and it was also relatively unbiased.
