Descartes theories
The topic of human philosophy is one filled with arduous arguments about existence and the questioning of why we are here. Rene Descartes’ Meditations on First Philosophy is no different. The first two meditations deal specifically with these issues, as Descartes examines several examples where these questions can be pondered. The most memorable of these example can be found in Meditation Two, where Descartes describes the piece of wax. The wax changes forms when it
is that one begins to consider the fact that what they have always believed may be incorrect. The best example seen in the text is when Descartes mentions that at the time of the writing, he had two different ideas about the size of the sun. Just the fact that one would begin to question such an elementary scientific idea illustrates the vast effect of this mode of thinking on even the most knowledgeable scholars.
